I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture in Auckland, New Zealand, and when I was introduced to therapeutic tuning forks towards the end of my degree, I was delighted and intrigued to discover that I could marry a lifelong love of singing and sound with my new understanding of the body and its life force energy or Qi. Sound Healing and Chinese Medicine make a perfect couple because they share a basic two pronged approach. One is to harmonise, returning the body-mind-spirit to its natural state of flow, while the other is to move stuck energy, dissolving the blocks that cause disease.
In TCM this is done with herbs, needles, exercises and massage techniques. Therapeutic Sound achieves it through our natural attraction to harmonic structure and pattern, including brainwave entrainment and the inherent perfection of mathematical intervals. Any departure from that creates dissonance, chaos, that is movement, dispersing energy and initiates an impulse to re-organise, to ‘heal’. This is the dance that Sound Healing offers. Often it is a dance into the dark, a willingness to wander into the mystery. I look forward to sharing a journey of exploration with you.
